Sandy Kline and Matt Fancher share 2008 Lay Leader of the Year Award

This year the Potomac District expanded its Sunday School Teacher of the Year Award to include lay leaders, and Sandy Kline of North Carroll Assembly of God, Manchester, MD and Matt Fancher of Trinity Assembly of God, Fairmont WV received such stand-out nominations that both were chosen to share the distinction of being Potomac District’s 2008 Lay Leader of the Year. In a special tribute in their home churches, Christian Education Department Director Wayne Rimmer honored the co-winners and presented each with a 2-night vacation package at the Williamsburg Hospitality House in Williamsburg, VA.

Sandy Kline: Sandy serves her church as Mpact coordinator and was nominated by five different persons including her senior pastor, David Olsen. “Under Sandy’s leadership, Mpact clubs have grown with a higher percentage of girls coming from the community.” In addition to her work with girls, Sandy also serves the youth group, substitutes as a Sunday school teacher and is a member of the choir. Comments from her nominees include:

“Sandy puts her whole heart in serving the Lord… and never complains of the many hours of behind-the-scenes work she does.”

“Her passion for the girls of the church and community is to seek Jesus and love Him with all their heart.”

“She has a contagious excitement about service and is an inspiration to everyone that knows her.”

“She has been a big part of my faith in God…I’m grateful to be under her leadership.”

Matt Fancher: According to Senior Pastor Ray Crabtree, when Matt Fancher and his wife Amber became the volunteer children’s church leaders at Trinity they “took the children’s ministry to a completely new and higher level which we never stop thanking the Lord for!” Matthew, who travels for the FBI as a motivational speaker for government-run youth programs, ministers to Trinity’s children with “unbeatable energy and freshness every Sunday morning, perhaps for the same length of time as a senior pastor would minister to his own congregation.” He weekly supervises at least 15 adult leaders and meets with them every week for at least an hour to plan for the next week’s themes, event and ministry focus. He manages the children’s church funds with excellence, supporting a successful camp scholarship campaign for kids who would not otherwise be able to come to camp. His “no child left behind” attitude allowed Trinity to send 52 children and parents to kids camp this past summer. In addition to camp scholarships, Matt leads the children’s church program in sponsoring an “Angel Tree” each Christmas for a home missions pastor and his family. Matt and his wife Amber have also excellently served for the past few years as one of the Potomac District Kids Camp directors.
